The checkout block is the core of how the app works. It displays a prompt on your Thank You page and Order Status age, inviting customers to opt-in to the Google Customer Reviews survey.

Please note:
Without the checkout block, no customer reviews will be captured, so this step is essential.

Before you begin

Make sure you've:

  1. Enabled the Google Customer Reviews add-on in your Google Merchant Center account. See Enabling Google Customer Reviews in Google Merchant Center.

  2. Entered your Google Merchant Center ID in the app settings. See Finding Your Google Merchant Center ID.

Adding the block to your Thank You page

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Checkout.

  2. In the Configurations section, click Customize next to your published checkout profile. This will open the checkout editor.

  3. Navigate to the Thank You page using the page selector at the top of the editor.

  4. In the left sidebar, click Add block (or Add app block).

  5. Find and select Easy Google Customer Reviews from the list.

  6. Position the block where you'd like the opt in prompt to appear. We recommend placing it in a prominent position so customers see it after completing their purchase.

  7. Click Save.

Adding the block to your Order Status page

Repeat the same process for the Order Status page:

  1. In the checkout editor, switch to the Order Status page using the page selector.

  2. Click Add block and select Easy Google Customer Reviews.

  3. Position the block and click Save.

Adding the block to both pages gives customers two opportunities to opt in, once immediately after purchase and again when they return to check their order status.

Customising the block text

You can customise the default title and introduction text of our checkout app block directly in the checkout editor.

To do this, open the checkout editor, select the Thank You or Order Status page and then select the Easy Google Customer Reviews app block. Then edit the text fields in the settings panel on the right.

If you don't customise the text, then sensible defaults will be used.

If you leave the default title and introduction text fields as they are, then the app block supports multiple languages and will display in the language of the customer's locale where available.

However, if you override the default title or introduction text, the text will not be automatically translated.

Quick link from the app

There is an Add checkout block button within the app that takes you straight to the correct page in the checkout editor where you can place the easy Google Customer Reviews app block.

You will see this option within the Current configuration settings:

Confirming the block is active

Once you have added the checkout app block to your pages, you can verify the block is active by opening the app in your Shopify admin. On the overview page, the Checkout Block row will show whether the block is currently enabled.

If it's not, you'll see a critical notice with a direct link to add it.

Note about revisiting the order status page

If a customer revisits their order status page, the opt-in prompt will appear again, even if they've already clicked Yes or No on a previous visit. This is expected behaviour. It does not mean the app is broken or that the customer will be surveyed multiple times. Google do not proveide a means for us to conditionally hide or show the opt-in, but they do manage duplicate opt-ins on their end.
