Once you've completed the setup, you'll want to verify that everything is working correctly. Here's how to test the full customer journey without needing to place a new order.

Before you test

Make sure the following are all in place:

  1. Google Customer Reviews enabled - The add-on is activated in your Google Merchant Center account and you've signed the agreement. See Enabling Google Customer Reviews in Google Merchant Center.

  2. Domain match - Your Shopify primary domain matches the website URL claimed in Google Merchant Center, including whether or not it starts with www.

  3. Merchant ID saved - Your Google Merchant Center ID has been entered in the app settings.

  4. Checkout block added - The easy Google Customer Reviews block has been added to your Thank You page and your Order Status page in the Shopify checkout editor. See Adding the checkout app block.

Testing the opt-in flow

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Orders and open any existing order.

  2. Click the More actions dropdown at the top of the order page.

  3. Select View order status page.

  4. You should see the easy Google Customer Reviews checkout app block, asking the customer if they'd like to opt in to the Google Customer Reviews survey.

  5. Click the Yes button.

  6. You should be taken to the proxy page on your store where the Google Customer Reviews survey opt-in pop-up from Google will appear, including the customer's email address in the details.

If you can see the survey opt-in pop-up, the app is working correctly on your store.

Important: don't interact with the survey pop-up

When testing, please do not click any buttons within the Google survey opt-in pop-up itself. Doing so would submit a real opt-in using the customer's email address, which would be a violation of their privacy. The goal is simply to confirm that the pop-up appears, not to complete the opt-in process.

Checking Google Merchant Center

Once the app is live and real customers start opting in, you should start seeing activity in your Google Merchant Center dashboard within 3 to 5 days. Look for data in the opt-ins received, surveys offered, and survey responses charts.

If you see activity in these charts, the app is working even if Google Merchant Center still shows an error message elsewhere.

See Google Merchant Center shows an error message for more on why this can happen.

Testing the Store Widget

If you've enabled the Google Store Widget via the Theme Editor, visit your storefront and look for the badge in the corner of the page (bottom-right or bottom-left, depending on your settings).

Note that the badge will only display a seller rating once you've met Google's review thresholds.

Something not working?

If the opt-in prompt doesn't appear on the order status page, see the Survey opt-in is not showing article for a full troubleshooting checklist.
