Why is the Google Store Widget not showing on my store?

If you've enabled the Google Store Widget in your theme but it doesn't appear when you visit your store, the most likely reason is that you're viewing the store from a country where your store doesn't have a Google store rating.

Less likely, but also a potential factor for the Google Store Widget to not appear would be if:

  • you are in a country where Google Services are blocked

  • you are in a country where the Google Customer Reviews program is unsupported

How Google's Store Widget works by country

Google displays store ratings on a per-country basis. Reviews collected from customers in a given country only contribute to your store's rating in that country. If you don't have enough reviews from a particular country, Google will not display the widget to visitors browsing from that location. It simply won't render on the page.

According to Google's documentation, most merchants need to collect around 100 or more eligible reviews from customers in a specific country before a rating will appear for visitors in that country.

This means if your customers are predominantly in the United States, your widget will show for visitors browsing from the US, but it will not appear at all for someone browsing from the UK, Australia, or any other country where you haven't accumulated enough reviews.

The widget simply doesn't render on the page, there is no error message or placeholder shown.

How to confirm this is the issue

  1. Use a VPN: Connect to a VPN server in the country where your customers are based (e.g., the US if most of your sales are there). Then visit your store. The widget should appear if you have met the minimum reviews threshold.

  2. Check your Store Quality scorecard: Log into Google Merchant Center and look at the Store Quality section. This will show you which countries you have ratings in and your current quality score.

  3. Check the widget directly: Visit your store's Google ratings page by going to https://www.google.com/shopping/ratings/account/lookup?q=yourdomain.com. If the page loads, you have a rating. You can change the country code in the URL (e.g., c=US, c=GB) to check other countries.

Quick checklist

  • Widget enabled in theme? Go to your Shopify Theme Editor and confirm the easy Google Customer Reviews app embed is toggled on.

  • Merchant ID configured? Make sure your Google Merchant Center ID is entered in the app settings.

  • Viewing from the right country? Use a VPN set to the country where you have customers and reviews.

  • Enough reviews? You generally need around 100 eligible post-purchase reviews from customers in a specific country.

Still not working?
