Google's store widget offers some customisation options, but there are limits to what can be changed. Here's what you can and can't control.
What you can customise
When you enable the widget through the Theme Editor, you can adjust:
Position - Bottom-right or bottom-left corner of the page.
Side margin - How far the badge sits from the edge of the screen (desktop and mobile can be set independently).
Bottom margin - How far the badge sits from the bottom of the screen (desktop and mobile can be set independently).
These options let you position the badge so it doesn't overlap with other elements on your site, such as chat widgets, cookie consent banners, or floating buttons.
To adjust these settings, go to Online Store > Themes > Customize in your Shopify admin, then find the Easy Google Customer Reviews app embed in the App Embeds section.
What you can't customise
The badge's visual design, colours, size, and interactive behaviour are all controlled by Google. Specifically:
You cannot prevent the badge from expanding. When a visitor clicks the badge, it opens to show your store's quality information and links to your ratings landing page on Google. This is built into Google's widget and cannot be altered or disabled.
You cannot change the badge's appearance, such as its shape, colour scheme, or the information it displays.
You cannot alter or remove the functionality of the badge. Google's program agreement requires that merchants do not modify, obscure, or prevent the display of any part of the service.
These restrictions come from Google, not from our app. The widget is rendered by Google's own script, and its design and behaviour are standardised across all merchants.
Can I keep it as a circle?
No. The badge's default compact state and its expanded state (showing the Top Quality Store or rating information) are both controlled by Google. You cannot lock it in the circle/compact view or prevent the expansion when clicked.
Can I hide the badge on specific pages?
The theme app embed is a global element which means that it appears on all pages of your storefront when enabled. If you need to hide it on specific pages, this would require custom theme code, which is outside the scope of our app's configuration. A Shopify theme developer could help with this if needed.
